Settling in nicely...
We picked up Sandy yesterday evening from Grassmere. Her spaying and health checkup went great and she's learning the intricacies of home life. Our two permanent resident female greyhounds are showing her the ropes. She's a very inquisitive girl, inspecting the speakers for the phantom sounds coming out of the stereo system. Very adorable. Quite contrary to the fosters we've had in the past, she is a natural on stairs, even our deck stairs without backs!

I have her sister Lisa, she seems quite a bit different from the other fosters I have. Is Sandy also an atypical grey?
ReplyDeleteHi Andra! I will e-mail you so we can swap stories about these sweet sisters!

She's quite different from other fosters we've had in the past, although not entirely so. For one, she's quite a bit more inquisitive than the fosters we've had. Besides trying to trace the source of the sound from our speakers, she's noticed her REFLECTION in windows and even in the beveled glass of an interior door. Our current hounds have only passingly noticed themselves, usually only in mirrors. I've heard that when animals notice their reflection, it is a sign of intelligence!
ReplyDeleteShe's slowly been learning how to get along with our two full-time resident females and does NOT like to be crated. We've left her out tonight and seems to be doing just fine. I'm sure she'll start to tolerate the crate more, with some practice. She's found a few things to get into that she's not supposed to be into but seems to understand when scolded. She's very cute, affectionate, and really seems to enjoy the company of humans, as evidenced by the crating issue. When petting her, you can almost see in her eyes a look of, "This is a little frustrating and completely new to me. Please have patience…"
We'll get to know her a lot better in the coming weeks, so we have no doubt we'll be able to find her the perfect home.
